True Grit

John Wayne earned his only Academy Award in this film by playing a gruff one-eyed U.S. Marshall hired by a teenage girl to kill her father's murderer. For the most part, it's a fine family film full of excitement and adventure. The wonderful scenery is a plus. Watch for Dennis Hopper in a small role as a dirty criminal.
